SPEECH BY TALKING NOTES FOR MRS. ANNE W. MUTAHI, CHAIRPERSON, WOMEN ENTEPRRISE FUND ADVISORY BOARD DURING THE INAUGURATION OF THE BOARD ON WEDNESDAY 9TH FEBRUARY 2011, AT NSSF BUILDING, 5TH FLOOR BOARD ROOM, AT 9.00AM
Our chief guest, Honorable Dr. Naomi Shaban, Minister for Gender, Children & Social Development,
The Permanent Secretary, Dr. James Nyikal,
Senior Officers of the Women Enterprise Fund and the Ministry,
Members of the Fourth Estate,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of the Women Enterprise Fund, I want to thank each one of you for finding time to be with us for this important occasion.
We are delighted that our Honorable Minister has spared time from her busy state duties to be with us this morning. Let me also heartily congratulate the newly appointed members of the Board. We feel honored and humbled to have been appointed to serve Kenya women entrepreneurs and our motherland Kenya.
I want to sincerely commend the pioneer Board headed by my predecessor, Madam Rose Ogega, for the good work done in laying the foundation for a great institution. We will build on these successes to move to greater heights of achievement.
In so doing, we will be guided by the 3 year strategic plan, 2009/2012, already in place.
My Board's priorities will be:-
Strengthening the institutional capacity through automation and staff development
Streamlining loan disbursements and recovery processes
Continuous awareness creation and corporate branding
Operationalize the other mandates of the Fund (i.e. marketing, infrastructure development and promotion of linkages)
Anchoring the Fund in statutes
My Board will continue to work very closely with the Ministry and seek out other like-minded stakeholders.
We will provide professional, focused and enlightened leadership to Management for us to succeed.
Women entrepreneurs and women in general expect a lot from us and we cannot afford to let them down. For example, I am aware that the new constitution provides opportunities for increased women participation in the decision making process. Women can only succeed in exploiting these openings and competing with men if they are economically empowered.
We will endeavor to work as a team and leave a legacy of a robust institution that is build to LAST.
MRS. ANNE W. MUTAHI
CHAIRPERSON, WOMEN ENTERPRISE FUND
