Milimani women group is located in Nturukuma location. The group was registered in 1998 and has a membership of 19 women. The main objective of forming the group was in order to improve the living standards of the members and empower the members socially and economically.
BEFORE WOMEN ENTERPRISE FUND FUNDING
The group members were doing merry go round. Some of the members did not run any business. Members struggled to make ends meet as money from the merry go round was not enough to cater for their needs. They struggled to pay school fees, medical bills and other financial needs.
AFTER FUNDING FROM WOMEN ENTERPRISE FUND
The group applied for their first loan of Kshs.50,000.00 in 2010. In 2012 they applied for Kshs.100,000.00, the third cycle of Kshs.200,000 in 2013 and fourth and fifth cycle Kshs.350,000 and Kshs.500,000 in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
First loan received from WEF was used on Green house and tree nursery, subsequent loans were used to expand their business ventures. Profits gained enabled the group start table banking.
The group members are now operating individual businesses. The group has also a table banking project and members are able to get loans of up to Kshs.100,000.
IMPACT AFTER WEF FUNDING
Group members are now able to meet most of their day to day financial obligations after expanding their business with loans from WEF. Group members testify that:
- No member can lack school fees for the children. The group also has education fund that helps members pay tuition fees for children in tertiary institutions.
- The group also has a project of acquiring assets and creation of wealth. The group has been able to acquire two pieces of land which they plan to develop.
The group intends to develop the land they have acquired by putting up rental houses.
Their long term goal is to become an investment entity in real estate. Their vision is to not only to be renowned women entrepreneurs but also be investors.
Teresia, a group member says that the group has become a model in the location, where many want to learn their secret to success.
